SCALE - What are its effects?

In fact the two central circles are exactly the same size.

You may have been surprised by the answer.  This is because the eye ‘expects’ everything to be in proportion, and when it is not, the eye exaggerates the differences in compensation.

Consider the central circle to be you and the surrounding circles to be the jewellery or accessories you are wearing.

-       If you are small-scale and the accessories are not in proportion with your size i.e. the outer items (accessories) are larger-scale compared with the item at the centre (you) an optical illusion occurs that has the result of making you look all the smaller

And the same is true in reverse.

-       If you are larger-scale and the accessories are not in proportion with your size i.e. the outer items (accessories) are smaller-scale compared with the item at the centre (you) the optical illusion that results has the result of making you look somewhat larger.

Neither of these are desired situations for most of us, so the answer is to dress and accessorise correctly for your scale.
